Children’s Ministry

Children, youth and families are vital parts of Columbine United Church. They help us know who we are and who God calls us to be. Guided by God’s love and grace, CUC’s Next Generation Ministry provides exceptional opportunities for spiritual growth and transformation for our children and youth. Christian education, music, worship, service, outreach, fellowship, and mission are among our offerings. Come and see the love and care, the fun and friendships, the service and connections that arise as our kids discover the love of God in their lives!

Sunday School

Young Children in Worship:

Columbine United Church offers two classrooms based on the Young Children in Worship model. There is a class for Pre-K through Kindergarteners and a class for 1st Graders- 3rd Graders. Young Children in Worship offers an opportunity for children to go in-depth into a Bible story through storytelling and exploration. This play-based curriculum allows your child’s imagination to soar while learning core Christian and Biblical beliefs. This is offered every Sunday from 10:00 am- 11:00 am.

Experiential Classroom:

4th and 5th graders are invited into the Experiential Classroom. This is a place where students are able to take a deeper look at the stories in a Bible through experiential learning. Over the course of 2-8 weeks, as a group, they will pick a project, research, and find a way to share their findings through science, art, songs, or whatever interests the group. The teachers in the classroom act as guides and helpers, allowing the students to learn and share the stories for themselves. At the conclusion of each project, there will be a time to share that project with their families and friends. For example, before Easter, a project could be researching and preparing a Passover meal to be shared with their families. This class will meet every Sunday from 10:00 am- 11:00 am. (After the completion of the 3rd Grade Bible class, the 3rd graders will join this class.)

Kids in Worship

Children are always invited to participate in the worship services at Columbine United Church. The noises they make are welcomed as an integral part of an inter-generational worship experience. The nursery and Sunday School classrooms serve to supplement the learning, nurturing, and care for your children.

Bring the light of Jesus Christ into our worship space each Sunday morning at both Sunday morning worship services! Kids 2nd grade and older are invited to attend a training class, and can serve as an acolyte for the Sundays that work with their schedule.

3rd Grade Bible Class

For 3-4 weeks after Easter, all 3rd graders are invited to attend a Bible class during the Sunday School hour. This class will go over how to use the Bible, why the Bible matters, and Bible basics. After the completion of this course, they will receive a Bible with their name engraved on it in a ceremony during church service. After the completion of Bible class, the 3rd graders will join the 4th and 5th Sunday school class. 2021 Dates: April 11th, April 18th, April 25th, and May 2nd from 9:00 am-9:45 am via Zoom.

Volunteer Opportunities

At CUC, we would be nothing without our amazing team of volunteer leaders! We are always looking for more ways to grow our team.

All church volunteers who work with children and youth must meet several requirements: 1) they must successfully pass a background check, 2) they must pass screening with trained staff, 3) they must have completed training to work in a classroom, and 4) they must be a member of Columbine United Church for at least six months. Further, all classrooms with children and youth are required to have two volunteers present at all times.

Whether you are interested in teaching, helping, planning fun events, or bringing snacks, we want your help! Fill out the form below to inquire about becoming a volunteer.
